Welcome to Bantay Bakhaw
A Progressive Web Application for Mangrove Leaf Disease Detection Using Image Processing
What is Bantay Bakhaw?
Are you guessing the tool or application being used? Well, let's see!
It's such a progressive web application for mangrove leaf disease detection using image processing.
Comprehensive Description of Bantay Bakhaw
Bantay Bakhaw is a Progressive Web Application (PWA) designed to detect mangrove leaf diseases using image processing technology. It focuses on identifying diseases such as anthracnose, leaf blight, black spots, white spots, and brown spots.
Key Features and Functionalities of Bantay Bakhaw
The application provides accurate disease identification through advanced image processing, empowering local communities, especially those in coastal areas with mangrove forests, to monitor the health of these ecosystems efficiently. It also offers treatment suggestions based on the detected diseases.
Environmental Impact and the Inspiration Behind Bantay Bakhaw
Bantay Bakhaw was inspired by the Philippines' vulnerability to typhoons and its extensive mangrove biome. The app aims to protect mangroves, which act as natural barriers and support marine biodiversity, contributing to the sustainable management of these forests for future generations.
What Inspired Us?
The Philippines lies directly in the path of the typhoon belt in the Western Pacific Ocean, a region known for generating some of the world's strongest and most frequent typhoons. Our country experiences an average of 20 typhoons annually, which, combined with our proximity to vast seawater bodies, poses significant risks.
Despite these challenges, the Philippines is home to one of the largest mangrove biomes in the world. These remarkable ecosystems serve as nature's frontline defense against typhoons, mitigate coastal erosion, and support marine biodiversity.
Our unique combination of vulnerability and natural strength inspired the development of Bantay Bakhaw. Our mission is clear and forward-thinking: to contribute to the sustainable management of mangrove forests and safeguard their invaluable role in the environment. Preserving mangroves not only benefits us today but ensures a thriving ecosystem for future generations.
Join us in protecting mangrove diversity, because "Early detection ensures timely intervention."
Get the App
Bantay Bakhaw App is supported on a wide range of devices, including desktops (Windows, macOS, Linux), mobile devices (Android, with limited support on iOS for only A2HS), and ChromeOS, through Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Samsung Internet, Opera & more.

The Minds Shaping Our Project's Process
We're TechnoHeads Team
Why Our Team called TechnoHeads?
Techno reflects innovative use of technology, specifically TensorFlow, EfficientNet,
and other cutting edge tools, to create a solution for a real world environmental challenge.
Heads represents the intellectual power behind our project team's ability to conceptualize,
design, and develop a Progressive Web Application that can accurately identify mangrove
leaf diseases and offer treatment suggestions.
Our Path to Innovation, Milestones, and Success
Our team not only team's technical skills but also emphasizes the commitment to environmental conservation. By developing the Bantay Bakhaw, we demonstrate how technology can be a powerful tool for protecting and managing natural resources. Our project is a testament to our ability to combine technical expertise learned with a passion for making a positive impact on the environment.
Our project journey began with a problem: the need for an effective and accessible tool to monitor mangrove health and identify leaf diseases. We recognized the potential of technology to address this challenge, leading us to the development of "Bantay Bakhaw".
We embarked on a rigorous data gathering process, capturing thousands of images of mangrove leaves exhibiting various health conditions. This dataset was meticulously preprocessed and augmented to ensure its quality and diversity, forming the foundation for our machine learning model.
We then turned to TensorFlow to build and train our model, carefully selecting EfficientNet as our architecture for its efficiency and accuracy in image classification. The model was trained on the preprocessed dataset, learning to identify patterns and characteristics associated with different mangrove leaf diseases.
With a trained model in hand, we shifted our focus to creating a user-friendly Progressive Web Application (PWA). We designed an intuitive interface that allows users to easily capture images of mangrove leaves, receive real-time disease identification results, and access treatment suggestions.
Our project development journey has been a testament to the power of technology to address real-world environmental challenges. We are proud to have created "Bantay Bakhaw", a tool that can empower communities, researchers, and government agencies to protect and manage mangrove ecosystems effectively.
